St. Thomas School
This private school needed unique, regularly published content that attracted parents of potential students, encouraged alumni donations, and built STS’s online community during the school’s COVID shutdown

content developer
St. Thomas School (STS) was in constant conversation with parents, students, faculty, alumni, and the public about their school’s efforts, practices, and successes in education. As a result, a massive amount of content needed to be researched, written, and published by accomplished writers on a daily basis. I became an integral part of the STS marketing team to create content online and across traditionally-published mediums.
summary
Established the school as a thought leader in the educational community by writing print articles for magazines.
Raised awareness for STS’s 2020 Capital Campaign by creating flyers for parents and alumni.
Increased organic traffic to the St. Thomas School website by writing blog articles for the STS website.
- Magazine Articles -
STS fall magazine, The Builder, was sent out every year to parents and STS alumni. These in-depth articles discussed educational theory, child psychology, and other research-heavy topics to lend credibility to the school as a top private elementary school.
Below you will see my article for the 2019 issue, “Empowering Students Through Play”. For this article we:
Interviewed six teachers at different grade levels to cast a wide net of what “play” means to different age groups
Incorporated current research on the positive effects of play on child development and education
Following the success of my article in 2019, I wrote all of the major articles for The Builder’s Winter 2021 issue. This undertaking meant coordinating interviews with director of development, parents, students, teachers, and the board of trustees. Scroll through below to view my articles:

Introducing John Sherwood, St. Thomas School’s New Board President
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Look at the Board of Trustees’ New Initiative

- Blogging -
While long-form articles were appreciated in print publications, STS also used their online blog for shorter topics with a faster turn-around. I wrote short blogs focused on broad topics that addressed common parenting concerns and linked to web pages introducing them to St. Thomas School.
Improved reception of online and offline content by editing and optimizing articles written by St. Thomas staff.
Streamlined blogging initiatives with monthly editorial calendars. These calendars provided concise guidance for content due dates, publishing dates, SEO keywords, and more.
Kept parents and teachers up-to-date on the school’s COVID policy by writing regular blog posts on remote learning and social distancing.
- PRint Flyers -
I created short “Project Updates” on the school’s capital campaign and sent them to STS parents in a newsletter (see below).
Social Media Manager
St. Thomas School had several on-site employees running their various social media accounts, but the sudden increase in blogging content called for my assistance in posting those blogs to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. This delegation led to:
Increased engagement on posts and social media accounts
Larger social media followings
More visibility of St. Thomas content to current parents, students, and staff
